Critique the blog

Please post your comments and suggestions on how to improve the blog – layout, structure, appearance, functionality and content.

Our vision for the blog is to enable every user to freely post comments on the discussion topics and to comment on each others’ posts. We plan to add the capability of using rich multi-media content including, graphics, voice and video.

The reality is that we are selecting and testing themes (designs) for the blog from a library of pre-programmed templates. Each theme has pros and cons. We are unsure about how many desirable changes (many from your suggestions) we can accomplish with these templates, given our limited programming resources – but Swathy and Hema are working diligently on this.

The current blog design is a step in the direction of achieving our vision, as we pursue our commitment to continuously improve functionality, aesthetics and ease of use – leading to a “professional” quality experience. Thanks for your suggestions and contributions. Best wishes, PC.

About Joshua Goodlett

I was born in Washington, D.C. but moved to Chattanooga shortly after. I grew up on Signal Mountain with my identical twin brother. I attended UTC and graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science in May of 2002. I am now a M.S. candidate in the Engineering Management program at UTC and will graduate in the Fall of 2009, at which point I hope to continue my studies by pursuing a Ph.D.

  1. This is my assessment of the blog on Jan. 28, 2009 at 1:30 PM. I had to be specific on the time and date, since the blog has had many changes over the past week. The broken image links are fixed and the Google ads are out of the way. The basic two section layout was easy to understand and follow.

Under the Categories listing: The article block in the center section is nice and truncated. A link is needed to see the whole article without having to ‘leave a comment’ to read it.
Since the Four Principles of Purposeful Action is the foundation, I would like to be able to find them quickly on the blog site.

  2. The new blog is a different style compared the discussion board on blackboard. I don’t think it is as user friendly initially as the discussion board was, but once you figure out where everything is it seems to work.
