Critique the blog

Please post your comments and suggestions on how to improve the blog – layout, structure, appearance, functionality and content.

Our vision for the blog is to enable every user to freely post comments on the discussion topics and to comment on each others’ posts. We plan to add the capability of using rich multi-media content including, graphics, voice and video.

The reality is that we are selecting and testing themes (designs) for the blog from a library of pre-programmed templates. Each theme has pros and cons. We are unsure about how many desirable changes (many from your suggestions) we can accomplish with these templates, given our limited programming resources – but Swathy and Hema are working diligently on this.

The current blog design is a step in the direction of achieving our vision, as we pursue our commitment to continuously improve functionality, aesthetics and ease of use – leading to a “professional” quality experience. Thanks for your suggestions and contributions. Best wishes, PC.

  1. Some feedback on comments:

  2. Wow, this blog keeps evolving every time I come on here! or even in the middle of posting something it’s change some – I see a lot of time & effort is being put into it & I appreciate it personally.
I like the picture of the bridge/highway on top of this page as it reflects well the path we’re all taking together along with a hint of speed, control & focus! The numbering of the comments look different but I’m sure is helpful when replying to a specific comment where we can quote the number. I see the google ads are back, but I don’t mind them really…

  3. From last night to this morning there has been more change. I think this look is fine but there are a few things that I notice. When you are going to post a reply, the block is dark and it is hard to see the cursor in the block. The writing is white so you can see when you start typing. I think a lighter background with black (or a dark color) font is better. Also, I believe the previous version had the newer posts first, today it is older posts first. There is some benefit to having it this way but I prefer it newer post first. One suggestion that I have is to add a “logout” under the login in the META block. For this week’s assignment, when we have 4 topics to post on, you have to dig a little to find the topic you are looking for. These comments are just my person opinion and mostly based on preference. I realize that it is hard to please everyone when we all have different preferences. Overall, I feel like the blog has improved from it’s original design.

  4. I think the look of this blog is much better than the previous version. I would have to agree with what some of the others have posted that if you are used to a thread design such as the Blackboard this is a little more complicated. However, I think it is just something that will take some getting used to. Great job in the redesign.
