Reality Check and Assessment of Action

What is the relationship between step two “Reality Check” and Step 10 “Assessment of Action” of Purposeful Action?

How do these steps relate to continuous quality improvement, or Kaizen?

The step two - Reality Check is assessment of the vision’s feasibility taking into consideration all external factors that would influence the do ability of the action. It helps us understand the pros and cons of putting the vision into action.

The step 10 - Assessment of Action is the assessment of the already implemented action. This gives us an understanding of the progress made by the action towards the accomplishment of the vision.

  • I agree Roy and I can’t really think of what else to add to that. Though Kaizen, these steps keep repeating and hence extrospection might not just be at the very beginning, but also after changes made to the goals or drastic circumstances and assessment needs to be made of the resulting modified plans in the order of the 12 steps of purposeful action.

Scott, you are correct! Commitment is the third step and the Reality Check is the step two.

Reality Check, relates the vision with environment or surroundings to see if it is practical or feasible. Assessment is evaluating the result of an action, which means that action is already occurred. Phase I is Forming the Mission, or it is the defining stage. The required action is performed in Phase II. Assessment is in Phase III, final phase. Reality Check is a step where people have questions and doubts about the vision. But in the assessment step people starting see the light end of the tunnel, because they know with few modifications the purpose is possible. Reality Check also address and prepare the mind of people to let them know that this is what we have or this is what you can handle. However, assessment step most often opens the mind of people to change things and thoughts to achieve more than what they may have decided in Reality Check step.

I agree with you roy, this is a valid point.the reality check is the preliminary state of forming the vision and make us to think that what are we really trying to do?and what do we need and want in prder to accomplish the vision.

Hmmmm….I thought step 3 was commitment to the mission while it was step 2 that was the reality check.

Either way, the Reality Check and Assessment are related in that they are both analyses that are performed during the 12 Steps. As Josh pointed out, one analysis is of what it will take and the other is of the action that was performed.

In Step 10, “Assesment of Action”, you’ve already executed the action and are determining if the outcome is beneficial or assists with fulfilling the vision. In Step 3 you are trying to determine if the action is even possible. Do external circumstances provide an environment in which to actually carry out the action?

Thats a true statement Joshua, under the assessment of action, the quality can be estimated in the process.we will review and analyze the results of the action executed and make an assesment.
